Hoffritz HZFD2 Fondue Maker

Perfect!
We decided on an electric fondue for ease of use and safety with our daughter. This one couldn't have been a better choice. This weekend we made both cheese and chocolate fondue. First, nice thing is that it gets hot enough that you can cook right in the fondue pot not on the stove and then have to transfer it. Turned to the #4 setting the wine for the cheese fondue was boiling in about two minutes and then the fondue was complete just a few minutes later (err on the side of using a slightly lower setting so you don't have to be as observant). Once made, you reduce the hear to serving temp and the Hoffritz kept the temp rock steady - didn't have to adjust it once. Chocolate fondue worked just as perfectly.

Pluses, using Pam the clean-up was really easy. Even though the pot is dishwasher safe, it cleaned up in the sink easily (for the chocolate, I soaked it for about five minutes). The forks are good quality - never felt like they were going to bend or break.

Slight minuses...

Perhaps not what you want
Don't use this pot for Fondue Bourguignon unless you enjoy being disappointed. It never heats the oil sufficiently to sear the outside of the meat. Consequently, food takes too long to cook and comes out slightly rubbery. Even if you preheat the oil before placing it on the base (something the manufacturer warns against), the built-in thermostat works against you. The pot is probably ideal for cheese, broth or dessert fondue. It's also beautiful and cleans up easily. I would definitely have given it 5 stars if it maintained a higher temperature.
